Indian Railways and Railway Network History

Railways in India, renowned worldwide for operating the largest rail network and is full of activity. The railway network of one hundred percent occupied by the Central Government of India. Indian Railway serves more than 20 million passengers each day.

India railway history is long and rich. Born during the British rule in India. The need for fast mode of transport for the movement of troops created a need for Indian Railways. The first train began on April 16, 1853 with Bori Bunder road Thane. The first train consisted of 14 wagons and was able to comfortably carry 400 passengers. Over time, more and more passenger trains were introduced extends throughout India from north to south, from east to west, covering all major cities along the routes including Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Kerala and Mumbai.

Metric gauge is used in places with less traffic, standard gauge is used in places where there is heavy traffic and narrow gauge is generally used in areas such as mountain ranges Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and Nilgiri Mountain Railway. The three indicators are further classified into 17 different railway zones in India.

These 17 different railway zones are an important part of Indian Railways. The zones are North, East, Northeast, West, Northeast Frontier, Central, North West, South Central, South, South Central, South-East, Southeast Central, Midwest, North Central, South West and the East Coast

All issues of the years many trains are introduced in the Indian Railways to provide smooth and comfortable journey for passengers. Internet has brought a major revolution in Indian Railways with the onset of electronic tickets and tickets. This has been a great comfort to the passengers by the introduction of the convenience of online booking system.
